On Friday evening, March 23, 2012... I had the privilege, pleasure and HONOR to assemble a trio for the "Garden State Film Festival" in the Arcade between The Paramount Theatre and Convention Hall in Asbury Park, NJ!!

What made it a privilege, pleasure and HONOR was having a gentleman I have known for approximately 55 years on saxophone, clarinet and flute in our trio!! 

I speak of, and simply introduce, a "WORLD-CLASS" musician, Mr. Paul Hoffman!!

In Lakewood's heyday, Paul Hoffman led a FANTASTIC orchestra at the New Irvington Hotel and played all the great performers of the Borscht Belt such as Johnny King, Tina Robin, Barry Frank, The Barton Brothers, Fyviush Finkel and my parents, "GIVENS & SWEETIE" and many other acts... the same great acts I played for at my hotel, The Capitol Hotel!! I had the opportunity to learn from this gentleman!! 

On keyboards, Mark Cohn... and on drums, yours truly, Jimmy Givens!!

My good friend, Howie Helman and I were jammin' in Howie's living room for his father, Chester Helman!! Chester introduced me to Howie 45 years ago and we used to do a lot of work as a trio.

Recently, Chester {who is 99 years young} was visiting from Florida and we played the Sonny Rollins classic, "St. Thomas" for Chester! We had FUN! ;-) שלום
